First AAG 'pulse check' is live

We gave you a teaser about this in T3 on 27 July. Now, we're live!

As part of our role in contributing to evidence-based policy and practice, AAG is conducting our first online 'pulse check' on topics relating to ageing and aged care.

Let's start with the familiar adage that you're only as old as you feel. We know perceptions of age and age-appropriate behaviours can significantly influence decision-making. Help us gain a better understanding of how age influences perspectives of ourselves and others, so we can identify priority areas and opportunities as the Australian population ages. This poll forms part of AAG's work with the Department of Health and Aged Care.

This is anonymous, will take 10 min, and some of these questions are compulsory so that we get to collect useful information (including an option if you don't want to provide an answer). The results will be shared on the AAG website. Click on this link to access the survey: www.surveymonkey.com/r/AAG23-24

Your participation in this survey is a link -via AAG- to high level policy decisions. Share your views and be part of the conversation that'll take shape on the AAG community platform.

Member renewal prize

A few months ago, we promised to put anyone who renewed their membership by 30 May in the draw to win a copy of 'A lasting conversation: Stories on ageing'.

Edited by Susan Ogle and Melanie Joosten, 'Stories on ageing' captures some of Australia's best storytellers' insights into ageing in Australia.

Eight AAG members from across the country have won a copy. Congratulations - in random order - to Pam Bongers, Danielle Cave, Wendy Hubbard, Raul Andres Hormazábal-Salgado, Lesley Jean Bastock-Lewis, Leila Shafiee Hanjani, Anita Marie De Bellis and Katrina Long.

For those who are yet to renew or join AAG, we remind you of the many benefits of being an AAG member. These include:

  • Access to our new exclusive online community, where you can connect, engage and share with members across every State and Territory
  • More of our popular webinars and an improved library of resources
  • Increased activities related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ageing
  • Eligibility to apply for grants from the AAG Research Trust
  • Discounted registration for the annual AAG Conference

Calling former ACAT assessors

This is a call-out for aged care assessment navigators, nursing or allied health practitioners, GPs or geriatricians with experience of the aged care assessment process who are not currently employed as ACAT assessors.

For her PhD, AAG student member Karen Donner is investigating how aged care assessors make assessment and eligibility decisions for government-funded aged care resources in Australia. In particular, she wants to understand the factors that influence and constrain assessors when making these decisions.

To find out more, contact Karen at [email protected] or on 0407 941 948.

This PhD research is being supervised by Dr Nola Ries, a valued member of the AAG Research Trust Grants Committee.
